What you would actually pay
The headline rates, and the qualifier that has to travel with them. Every figure comes from Cyprus's own cross-checked rules, not from an estimate.
- Income tax
- 0% up to EUR 22,000, then 20 to 35%. Half your salary above EUR 55,000 is exempt for 17 years.
- Corporate tax
- 15% from 2026, up from 12.5%.
- Getting profit out
- 0% for a non-dom. The exemption is now worth 5 points, not the 17 you may have read.
- Honest all-in
- About 3% on qualifying IP or on new equity through the notional interest deduction.
The catch
Non-dom status runs 17 years, extendable to 27 for a fee. The 60-day residency route needs a home and a Cyprus tie, not just 60 days.

What the rules say about Cyprus
The rules below are the ones most likely to shape a stay in Cyprus, in plain words and with the source behind each one. Your own report tells you which of them apply to you.
- Significant issuePermanent establishment risk
Signing contracts or managing from Cyprus creates real PE risk
A home office that habitually concludes or negotiates contracts binding the employer, or that exercises real management functions, is exactly what fixed-place-of-business and dependent-agent permanent establishment tests target. Assessment is facts-and-circumstances, turning on permanency, whether the employer requires or benefits from the Cyprus location, and how much authority the person actually has. For employers based in Australia, Brazil or Indonesia there is no tax treaty PE threshold to soften this, domestic Cyprus PE rules apply raw.
- Significant issuePersonal income tax
Cyprus tax residency means worldwide income comes into scope
Once you meet either the 183-day rule or the 60-day rule, Cyprus taxes your worldwide income at progressive personal rates, roughly 0 percent up to 19,500 euros a year, 20 percent up to 28,000, 25 percent up to 36,300, 30 percent up to 60,000 and 35 percent above that. A 2026 reform package that could raise the tax-free band was reportedly under discussion but not confirmed as enacted at research time, so treat the exact bands as indicative pending confirmation.
- Significant issueSocial security
Cyprus social insurance attaches from your first day of work, with no minimum period
Cyprus charges social insurance on employment physically exercised in Cyprus with no minimum period at all, it is not tied to the 183 day tax test and not tied to tax residency in any way. KPMG Cyprus states plainly that any person undertaking employment activities in Cyprus is subject to social insurance contributions there, and that foreign nationals are liable the moment they physically exercise their employment activities in Cyprus. The one release valve is a valid A1 certificate, which lets an EU, EEA or Swiss national stay insured under their home country's system instead. Without one, liability starts on day one, not after 60 days, not after 183 days.
- Significant issueTax residency
Over 183 days makes you a Cyprus tax resident, no other conditions
Physical presence in Cyprus for more than 183 days in the tax year makes you Cyprus tax resident under the plain 183-day rule, with no other conditions attached. The legal test runs on the calendar tax year, this finding tracks your presence on a rolling 12-month basis as the closest measure the engine has, so treat a total near the line as a signal to check your actual calendar-year count.
- Significant issueRight to work
Serving Cyprus clients or signing locally is outside every route described here
Neither the visitor grey zone nor the Digital Nomad Visa covers working for Cyprus-based clients or entering the local labor market. The nomad visa explicitly requires an employer registered abroad or clients based abroad, and prohibits local economic activity for family members too. Taking on Cyprus clients or signing contracts locally needs a proper local work authorization, a different basis entirely.
- Significant issueImmigration and visa
Past 90 days you need a status beyond a visitor stamp
There is no simple extension for a tourist or business-visit entry past the 90-day allowance. Staying longer needs a real basis, most commonly the Digital Nomad Visa if you are working remotely, or another route such as the non-working pink slip or Category F self-sufficient income permit. Overstaying instead risks fines, detention, deportation and re-entry bans, and Cyprus has had SIS access since July 2023 so enforcement is not purely a local matter even before Schengen accession.
What tends to surprise people here
- Meeting every cumulative condition of the 60-day tax residency rule
- Digital nomad visa runs on a limited annual quota
- Not yet in Schengen, so the 90/180 count is national, not bloc-wide
